Easter weekend musings

Hello All, We will be packing in the pints this Easter weekend! But before we get started, be sure to check out a new filly that is racing for the first time on Easter Sunday. Her name is Aussie Awakening and she is by the Australian Stallion Sensation Lonhro. Aussie is in the 7th on the 27th at Gulfstream Park running on what’s left of the turf course. She needs to go much longer but as it happened last week with Cliffs of Dover, the only races that seem to be filling are the shorter ones. In this case, 7 1/2 on the turf again.

Speaking of Cliff’s race last weekend, boy did we pick the wrong group to run against. Smokem Kitten the eventual winner set a new track record and in the process ran the fastest speed figure in the whole country last week. As I live and breath, I guess that’s why the call it a horse racing. Cliff came out of the race super so watch for him at The Big A next time out. Good news! The new condition book is out for The Big A and there are a few turf races in there. The purses are much better (we don’t spend 2 million on a Winged Pegasus in NY, we put the money into purses) and many of the races are for our NY Breds. We should start to hit the board on a regular basis. It's brutal in Florida, banging your head against the wall against the best horses, jockeys and trainers for 1/2 the money. But if the horses are ready to run you run them. Like Mr. Bill Mott says, "They don’t lay eggs and they don’t give milk so run 'em!."

Good luck to all this weekend we’ve got the Louisiana Derby, rooting for Gun Runner by Candy Ride (coincidentally the hot sire of one of our new prospects; Satisfy) and even more exciting California Chrome in the Dubai World Cup tomorrow morning (TVG 8:30 am).

Go Chrome!

Happy Easter to all and go get those eggs!
