Opening Day! Opening Day: If you're not here, you must be very far away. Standing by the gap going on to the Oklahoma turf course within three minutes I see Jose Ortiz, John Velasquez, Joel Rosario and Javier Castellano coming and going. Either heading on to the track for a turf work or coming off on the prancing, blowing, energized horse. Standing right beside me watching the action is one of the greats, another hall of famer Mr. Jose Santos.
The beauty of the mornings here is that you see all the great horses, jockeys and trainers at work getting their horses ready for the big show in the afternoon. It's sort of like the red carpet at the Academy Awards but everyone's in jeans and polo shirt and for the riders, flak jackets and helmets. But you can get that close to the best in the business and the greatest names in our wonderful sport every morning at Saratoga.
It amazes me every year how this place goes from totally vacant and empty to 2000+ horses and what looks to be capacity crowd for this year's Opening Day. We're lucky to be coming off some very good finishes by our horses who will show their best when we enter for the very competitive racing up here at The Spa. We're targeting Alabama Bound, who's coming off two hard fought, nosed out seconds, for August 3rd in a maiden special weight which she so deserves to win. We also have Cliffs of Dover who we're targeting a race for on the 7th. He'll be 100% ready even though he's only 96% there after being gelded earlier this month. Sanctify should be in the entries around the 10th and at the same time our newest star, I Love You Still, coming off a very impressive win on the last Friday at Belmont, should be ready to go around the middle of August as well. So everyone is excited and I'm talking Christmas morning excited about this year's always fabulous, no matter what the weather is, Saratoga meet.
If you're in Saratoga for any period of time contact us and we'll be happy to show you around the magical kingdom that is horses working out in the morning, watching your horses being saddled in the afternoon or just hanging out in the picnic area for a day at the races with the family. Nobody knows the ins and outs, the best places to park and the best restaurants to go to than yours truly. I'm at your service from Opening Day to Labor Day twenty-four seven. Don't let anyone fool you I've got the keys to the city in my glove compartment.
